Halloween at Darley Moor Airfield

Family Walks around Ashbourne

Let’s face it, the Peak District pretty much has it covered when it comes to great walks.  But what if you’re from Derby, Burton or Uttoxeter and you fancy an afternoon bimble without having to schlep all the way up into the hills?  Well, the answer is to try something a little more local.

The Aviator is a great option if you’re looking for some easy going walks near Ashbourne that start and end at a nice Café. We’ve got plenty of free parking and we’re dog friendly to boot.  Either park up, enjoy your walk and return for a cuppa and a slice of cake.  Alternatively, join us for breakfast or  lunch before heading off for an hour or two on the quiet lanes that surround us in the foothills to The Peaks themselves.

If you’re on one of the nearby classics, like the famous Osmaston Park circular walk with it’s Swiss Chalet style mill, if you’ve just been walking around Ashbourne’s shops or if you’re on your way to the pretty local walks around Mapleton and Mayfield, then we’re a great pre, post or ‘middle of walk’ option.

We’re very happy to welcome ‘Walk ins’ but if you’re a bigger party or want to guarantee a table then booking a table is a good idea, especially at busier times.

To inspire you, and make life a little easier, we’ll be creating a few walks from our door over the next few months.  If you’d like us to tell you when we’ve done that please do Sign up for our Activity news and we’ll ping you an email each time we create a new trek.
